The Power of Divine Healing: Part 1.
I want to introduce to to man whose ministry has been compared to that of our Lord Jesus Christ. His name in John G Lake. He was born in 1865 and died in 1935. His healing ministry in Spokane, USA had over 100,000 recorded miracles in 5 years! He also ministered in South Africa for years, where the power of God shook a nation.
He discovered something about healing that a lot of us don’t know about. I have put this into practice and found it to be true. It is totally scriptural..
A lot of the Body of Christ seem to believe that healing is instant and it a lot of cases, it is. But here’s what the Word of God has to say about it..
The majority of the recorded healings in the Gospels was by a persons faith.. God’s will in the matter was already settled.. One time, Jesus didn’t even know who it was that had received healing from Him1 He just knew “that virtue (power) had gone out from Him”.. “and Jesus said “Who touched me?” and the disciples said “What do your mean Lord, who touched you? You see the multitude thronging you and you say ‘who touched Me?’ There were many people touching Jesus that day but one little lady who was dying, touched Him in faith.. and the power of God went from Jesus into her. Jesus said “Daughter, be of good cheer (Rejoice!) YOUR faith has made you whole” She believed, acted her faith and God did the rest.. In Mark, we find the words of Jesus..
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Notice ‘THEY SHALL RECOVER” Firstly the word is ‘SHALL’ not maybe.. and secondly, the word ‘RECOVER’ - Recovering is a process.. It can be quick or slow but it is a process.. a process that Jesus said would begin when ‘hands were laid upon you in Jesus name’
The speed of recovering and healing seems to be dependant on 2 things;
1) The amount of power ministered to the person.
2) The degree of the persons faith.
In James 5:14, we find instructions to the believers who are sick..
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer of faith (NOT the prayer of unbelief!) shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
The Bible says.. and the Lord shall raise him up” ‘Raising up’ is also a process. You are lying on the ground and you raise yourself up and stand upright.. It’s a process. If you have been anointed with oil in the name of Jesus..there are 3 ‘SHALLS’ that the God, Who cannot lie, promised would happened. All we need to do is believe it and give thanks!
Jesus was anointed with the ‘Spirit without measure’ We aren’t.. according to the Word of God, we have ‘measures of the Spirit’ Lake says, “come and get your measure today and then come again tomorrow and get another measure” BUT come in faith!! (believing)
Jesus said “What things soever you desire, believe you have received them and you shall have them” Again, here is a ‘coming into being’ You believe you have received it WHEN you pray (not when you feel it) and you shall have it. (it shall come into being)
The ONLY thing that stopped Jesus from healing in the Gospels was ‘unbelief’ or no faith. “ and He could do no mighty work .. because of their unbelief” It doesn’t say He wouldn’t.. It says He couldn’t! Even the Son of God incarnate, empowered with the ‘Spirit without measure’ couldn’t heal them..
“According to your faith, so be it unto you”
“As thou has believed, so be it done unto you” “Believe I am able to do this?”
“Without faith, it is impossible to please God”
When Jesus healed the 10 lepers, it was from a distance.. He told them “Go and show yourselves to the priest!” (notice no healing had taken place yet! and “as they went, they were healed” As they acted upon the words of Jesus, healing began in their bodies..
John Lake would minister to people ever day until they were healed. Everyday is a new day in the Lord.. We tend to think of it as a continue in our lives and so it is BUT to God, Who created the world in days) It is a new day.
“His mercies are new every morning” (not week)
“This is the day that the Lord had made”
Many years ago, I receive copies of the original manuscripts of John G Lake sermons ? How they came half way round the world and got to me in Western Australia, only God knows! His wife, Jenny was a typist and hence some of his sermons were preserved. They make awesome reading. Here are some scanned excepts
Notice: Distance is no barrier to God. he will meet you where-ever your faith is at.
Notice: "In less than 10 days" They kept ministering God's grace to him until he was well.. Here's what Jesus told me one night about Love.. "I have become no respecter of persons. I seek to bring God's goodness to all my brethren, regardless of their response to me. I thank God for them. I love those that don't love me. I pray for those that despitefully use me. I speak well of those that speak evil of me. I take no account, pay no attention to evil things either said or done to me. This is not a feeling, it is a way of life. It is life. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. I am constantly seeking and looking for ways to bless and help you. I ask the Lord to show me who is in need. The body is held together by that which every joint supplies. I am a supplying joint, ever ready to give out to others what I have received of the Lord, for it belongs to Him. I am just a steward of it. Jesus is the author of my faith. Without Him I would have no faith." (From The Oracles of God)
This is what love does.. It keeps drawing grace from God and ministering it to others. The Bible says, "The body is held together by that which every joint supplies"
Lake had a team of helpers, They would also minister to a person until they were well, or in position to get well..
Notice that His assistant ministered to him 'probably 6 times' We give up too easy! We are supposed to know the will of God and get it done on this Earth. "Thy will be done on Earth.." Jesus said. It is God's will that people be saved and healed..
Whatever you do, stay in faith, as Jesus put it “all things are possible to hose who believe (have faith) As Smith Wigglesworth (Another turn of the century preacher who walked the power of God) said “There is something about believing God, that will cause Him to pass over a million people to get to you”
‘But how do I get faith then’ you ask? Easy.. It’s a gift. “For by grace are you saved by faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God” Faith is a gift that comes from God by hearing His Word. It ONLY comes by hearing the Word of God.. “So then faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God” So put on the word of God and do what Proverbs says “My son, attend top my words, incline you ears to my sating, let them not depart from your eyes, keep them in the midst of your heart (Why?) for they are Life to those who find (grasp) them and health (medicine) to ALL your flesh” Prov4:24
Have a read of Hebrews Chapter 11.. It’s all about faith and the things people did with it.

Healed according to their faith:
The main way Jesus healed in the Gospels, was 'according to a persons faith' ~ Jesus didn't heal everyone.. BUT He healed everyone that come to Him believing! ~ "Believe I am am able to do this?" He asked one person.. The person said "Yes lord" and he received his healing.. What do you think he would have got if he had said "Not really Lord!" ~ "According to your faith, so be it done unto you!" He told another.. "As you have believed, He told another" ~ The woman with the issue of blood was healed according to her faith (Read her story in Mark chapter 5. The Holy Spirit recorded it so you could follow her example and receive from the Lord too!
Jesus said to her.. "Daughter your faith has made you whole. ."
So how did she get this faith? The Bible states, 'so then faith comes by hearing and hearing, by the Word of God' ~ It is recorded that 'when she heard of Jesus' (that's when faith started to arise in her heart) Now notice what she said.. 'she said, If I may touch but His clothes, I shall be made whole' Then she acted her faith and pushed her way through the crowd (through the dust on the ground!) looking for the hem of Jesus's garment.
What she said... was her faith speaking.. She said 'if I so much as touch the border of His garment, I shall be whole" ~ Jesus said.. "Daughter your faith (what she said and then her actions) has made you whole" Faith is not what you believe. It's acting upon what you believe.. She 'said it' and then she 'did it' and received from the Lord..
